Freedom of Religion or Belief

Why Freedom of Religion or Belief matters

For the vast majority of the world's population, religion or belief is a fundamental and natural part of their identity. These religious or non-religious beliefs play an important role in basic everyday choices as well as important decisions or moments in a person's life. For example, how one handles money, the importance of work, leisure or community, but also the choice of a partner, the upbringing of children, or one's responsibility to society and the environment. Religion and ideological convictions affect all people and are of great importance to them. Freedom of religion and belief is a universal human right. It is the birthright of every human being without exception. As with all human rights, the purpose of freedom of religion or belief is to ensure the freedom and well-being of every person and to protect people from abuse of power.
